Talk about making a big impression. Several traveling immersive exhibits are giving art lovers a larger-than-life view of some of Vincent van Gogh’s most famous works.
The Van Gogh, Starry Night show debuted in Paris in 2019 to wide acclaim—even earning a cameo in the Netflix series Emily in Paris.
Directed by “The Steven Spielberg of Immersive Art,” Massimiliano Siccardi, the show uses 140 video devices to project Van Gogh’s masterpieces over 3,500 square feet.
The paintings were transformed into medium-length films set to cinema-quality sound, covering the walls and floor of the space as animations brought them to life.
The show’s popularity has resulted in a half-dozen similar immersive van Gogh shows around the world, from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi, and even a permanent installation in Indianapolis.
New York City has two competing shows happening at the same time, under similar names, with similar copycat accusations—and both are in lower Manhattan.
But with everything from selfie-ready walls and rentable cushions to play rooms and absinthe bars, whichever you visit is the perfect place to spend a starry night.
